Cork Oak
Quercus suber
In the Papa Albani garden at Villa Miralfiore in Pesaro stands a rare specimen of Quercus suber (Cork Oak), a plant typical of the Mediterranean and a geographical exception in this setting.
Considered a symbolic tree for the park, several restoration interventions were carried out to enhance its growth conditions.
The bark is ridged and gray, and in plants aged 7-8 years, it becomes corky. Once removed, it reveals the reddish color of the trunk underneath.
The leaves are dark green on top, silvery underneath, hard, oval-shaped, and have spiny edges. It later produces single acorns as fruit.
