Himalayan Cedar
Cedrus deodara
In the Papa Albani garden of Villa Miralfiore stands a unique and majestic specimen of Cedrus deodara (Himalayan Cedar), with a trunk diameter of 103 cm.
This rare tree, a symbol of history and exotic beauty, enhances the garden with its elegant canopy and its contribution to biodiversity.
The fruits of the Himalayan Cedar are cones, or strobili, which turn reddish-brown when mature. They ripen between September and November of the following year. The seeds are contained inside the cones and are dispersed by the wind.
The leaves of the Himalayan Cedar are needle-like, 2.5-5 cm long, and not sharp. They start as gray-blue in color and later turn dark green.
